How much fish should we be eating?

In [insert country name] we should be eating fish [insert recommended frequency, e.g. twice a week] - count on Birds Eye/Findus/iglo (delete as appropriate) to help you achieve this!

In Europe, all countries recommend consuming fish. This is because fish has an important role in the diet, owing to its varied and numerous health benefits. Ideally, we should all aim for at least 2 portions per week, including a serving of oily fish. Oily fish include salmon, tuna (not tinned/canned), mackerel and sardines. In our delicious Birds Eye/Findus/iglo (delete as appropriate) range of fish products we’ve got a variety of nutritious salmon products, such as our [insert local salmon product example] [insert link to named fish product on website]. The global and European recommendations

The World Health Organisation recommends that we regularly eat fish (1-2 servings per week), and that servings should ideally provide omega 3 fatty acids. This is because omega 3 fatty acids are ‘essential’- they can’t be made in our body, so we have to eat them in our diet.

EFSA (the European Food Safety Agency) has given similar recommendations, by advising eating 1-2 servings of oily fish per week. However, because a variety of different fish species are consumed in different European countries, EFSA recommends that each country in Europe gives its own fish consumption advice.
